1. O Panneerselvam sworn in as new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu
- Panneerselvam took oath as new Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
- Mr Panneerselvam, 65, was elected by the ruling AIADMK's lawmakers to lead them at a midnight meeting at the party's office, his status as staunch Jayalalithaa loyalist making him the most acceptable candidate to carry on her work.
2. B S Bhullar appointed Chief of Directorate General of Civil Aviation
- Senior bureaucrat B S Bhullar 1986-batch IAS officer was today appointed chief of aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
- He is presently working as Additional Secretary in Civil Aviation Ministry.
- The post has been lying vacant for past over four months after M Sathiyavathy, first woman chief of the aviation regulator, was named as new Union Labour Secretary in July this year.
3. Praful Patel appointed as AFC senior VP
- All India Football Federation President Praful Patel has been appointed as a senior vice president of Asian Football Confederation.
- Patel, who was serving as the vice president of the South East Region for the Asian Football Confederation

4. Free textbooks for IX & X Students in Assam
- Students of classes IX and X of In Assam will get free textbooks from academic year 2017-18 as the State government aims to increase enrolment in the state-funded schools and reduce dropout rate.
- Free textbooks will reach to the students by 25 of this month as the classes of new sessions in Assam starts from New Year Day.
- The scheme will cover all government high and higher secondary schools and non provincilasied schools who got financial incentives, among others.
5. Prez Mukherjee inaugurates 1st ever International Gita Mahotsav
- Today,President Pranab Mukherjee has inaugurated the first ever International Gita Mahotsav in Kurukshetra, Haryana.
- President has also lay the foundation stone of Krishna circuit on the occasion.
- It is a ffive-day mega event.
- It spread eternal message of Gita to the world community, global chanting of Srimadbhagvad Gita would also be held on Gita Jayanti Day before the final deepdaan ceremony at Brahmsarovar in Kurukshetra.

6. Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa passes away
- AIADMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa (68-year) passed away at Apollo Hospital in Chennai.
- She had suffered a massive cardiac arrest.
- Tamil Nadu government has announced a seven-day State Mourning from today.
- The national flag on all government buildings will be flown at half-mast. No official entertainment will also be held during this period, The government has also declared a three-day holiday for all educational institutions in the state.
- The neighbouring union territory of Puducherry has also announced a holiday for all government offices and educational institutions today as a mark of respect to Jayalalithaa.

7. B R Ambedkar's death anniversary: 6 December
- Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar popularly known as Babasaheb, was an Indian jurist, economist, politician and social reformer who inspired the Dalit Buddhist Movement and campaigned against social discrimination against Untouchables (Dalits), while also supporting the rights of women and labour.
- He was Independent India's first law minister and the principal architect of the Constitution of India.
8. 45th Navy Day observed in India
- Navy day in India is observed on 4th of December every year to celebrate the magnificence, achievements and role of the naval force to the country.
- Indian navy is the marine branch (means naval branch) of the India’s armed forces which led by the President of India as a Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Navy.
- The Maratha emperor, Chhatarpati Shivaji Bhosle of the 17th century is considered as “Father of the Indian Navy”.

9. MMTC to tie-up with SBI to sell govt minted 'Indian Gold Coin'
- Public sector company MMTC will tie-up with the State Bank of India (SBI) to sell government-minted "Indian Gold Coin"
- The coin is India's first-ever sovereign gold offering and the only one to be hallmarked by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for purity.
- The coin has the national emblem Ashoka Chakra engraved on one side and Mahatma Gandhi on the other. Its other unique features include 24 Karat 999 fineness purity, positive tolerance both in weight and purity, tamper proof packaging and advanced anti-counterfeit features
- Aim: The creation of a national-branded coin, of uniform price and quality, has addressed the trust deficit that exists around the buying and selling of gold. It aligns with the 'Make in India' priority of the government
- The coin is available in denominations of 5gm, 10gm and 20 gm bar.

10. Srinidhi Shetty won 2016 Miss Supranational title
- Mangaluru girl, Srinidhi Shetty , was crowned Miss Supranational 2016 at a grand ceremony in Krynica Zdroj, Poland.
- She also won the title of Miss Asia-Oceania.
- Srinidhi became the second Indian to win the title after Asha Bhat in 2014
11. Shavkat Mirziyoyev wins Uzbekistan Presidential Election
- Uzbekistan’s acting President Shavkat Mirziyoyev won a resounding victory in the country’s first presidential election since the death of longtime authoritarian leader Islam Karimov.
- Mirziyoyev, who represented the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan in the election, one of four sanctioned parties in the country, has praised the rule of his predecessor, whose rule was considered by analysts as one of the most repressive in the world.
12. Bernard Cazeneuve named French PM after Manuel Valls quits
- The French president, François Hollande, has named Bernard Cazeneuve to head the French government as prime minister until a presidential election next May.
- Cazeneuve, who was interior minister, replaced Manuel Valls, who resigned on Tuesday morning after announcing his bid to become France's next president.
