Data Flow Diagram Question asked SBI Po Mains 2016

We will discuss about “DFD(Data Flow Diagram)” in this session on which there was a question in “SBI PO MAINS” exam which was a surprise question for banking aspirants.

First question arises in our mind What is DFD?
DFD(Data Flow Diagram):-It is a pictorial representation of certain condition. And information of certain condition will be given in puzzled form. And you have to analyze DFD by applying your logical ability to answer different questions asked on it.

Points to keep in mind while approaching DFD questions:-
(1) First of all analyze the whole DFD and try to understand it.
(2) Try to gather hidden information from given DFD.
(3) Apply your logical ability and try to judge the given question. You will definitely get answer within the DFD.
(4) Always try to give answer based on DFD not on your own perception.
(5)Never get panic after seeing a large diagram. It is just decision based question which is completely based on analytical ability.

Now we will discuss DFD in details by taking an example:-

In this example a builder Xis taking permission to renovate a building. And for this different condition is shown in pictorial form. You have to understand the DFD and after analyzing try to get hidden information.

So, let’s discuss some question related to it:-
1. After /Before which step Builder should have taken legal permission from concerned authority for renovation work?
(a) After  hiring required architects.
(b) Before asking people of society to vacate their house.
(c)  After taking permission from people of society.
(d) After asking people of society to vacate their house.
(e) cannot be determined.

Solution:- (c) After analyzing DFD, we can determine that after taking permission from people of society, Builder should have taken legal permission from concerned authority for renovation work. Taking permission after hiring required architects is useless. And taking permission from concerned authority before asking people of society is not logically right because first step should be taking permission from owner of a building which is to be renovated.

2. Which condition is sufficient to make sure that renovation work will be completed in 6 months?
(a) Concerned authority are regularly  visiting to renovation site for cross check of work.
(b) Builders are planning to make renovation make valid for 15 years.
(c) Data  insufficient.
(d) People of society  have given ultimatum to builders to complete renovation in six months otherwise they will go on hunger strike.
(e) None of these.

Solution:- (c)
No data is sufficient to make sure that renovation work will be completed in six months. Option (a) is a preventive approach by concerned authority to complete work on time. But it does not make sure that work will be completed in six months. In option (c) people of society are giving just warning to builders. But none option can make sure that work will be completed in six months.

3. Which step of renovation is logically missing in Data flow diagram?
(a) If only 30% people  gets agree for renovation then Builders should again try to convince people.
(b) Builders should take legal permission from concerned authority  for renovation.
(c)  To complete renovation, Builder should take 3-4 time duration slot.
(d)  Before vacating house people should take suggestions from their relatives.
(e) None of  these.

Solution:-(b)
In this question you have to find out the hidden information from the given DFD. In this question missing step of renovation is to be find out. So answer will be (b) i.e. Builder should take legal permission from concerned authority for renovation.
